The Primary Bulk Stationery program includes all book list items for Primary students. This effectively means that there is no book list for Primary students. All resources including stationery and Jewish Studies texts and siddurim, haggadot and chumashim will be provided within the classroom as required throughout the year with the cost included in the tuition fee. Requirements are reviewed each year to achieve further costs savings which are passed on to parents via a lower impost in the tuition fees.
In Years 4 to 6 the iPad continues to meet the needs of learners given the range of educationally relevant apps available, together with ready access to a camera. This combined with the mobility, weight and durability of iPads continues to make the iPad the appropriate learning device in the Primary School for the foreseeable future.
All iPads connected to the College network have had the Messages application blocked. We anticipate that this will reduce the potential for distraction during school learning times.
All Year 4 students will receive a College-owned iPad that will be managed and maintained by the College. The Year 4 devices will remain on the College grounds at all times, stored and charged in classrooms overnight. This will enable our Year 4 students to manage the transition to Upper Primary without the pressure of being responsible for an expensive device to transport every day to and from school. The College will provide a case for the Year 4 iPads.
This means that current Year 3 parents do not need to purchase an iPad for next year.
Parents will need to provide volume limited headphones with, if possible, an inbuilt microphone suitable for children. These can be find at general department stores as well as specialist audio stores. If purchasing wireless headphones you will need to ensure that they are also charged overnight, along with the device.
Year 5 students will continue with their use of a College-owned iPad that will be managed and maintained by the College. The Year 5 devices will continue to remain on the College grounds at all times, stored and charged in classrooms overnight. This means that parents of new students joining in Year 5 do not need to purchase a device for 2020. Students who require a new keyboard/case will have that provided by the College.
Our Year 6 students will continue to use their own iPads in 2020 and will be able to take them home at the conclusion of each school day.
Complete information about the program and requirements, as well as technical requisites of the devices, is available on the BYOD Portal on the Scopus website. Please ensure you read it in full before purchasing a device for your child.
Students must come to school with their iPad fully charged everyday.
For students entering Year 6 in 2020, please note that we recommend that from 2021, students in Years 7-12 use a device with a full operating system (Mac OS or Microsoft Windows) and not an iPad.
Whilst the iPad continues to meet the needs of learners in the Primary School, there is increasing evidence to suggest that the type (and volume) of content created within the secondary school, along with increased teacher-student-teacher digital feedback, are more efficiently managed on a device with a full operating system.
Please note that this is a recommendation rather than a mandated change to the current program, and that iPads will still be listed as an acceptable device in our 2021 BYOD device requirements. The change however is likely to become mandatory in the secondary school in the near future.
We are sharing this information with you at this early stage, to allow maximum time for planning of appropriate purchases and so parents do not invest in a higher spec iPad on the basis of their child/ren's educational requirements.
