Hello Herons!
November is National Career Development Month!
We will be highlighting different aspects of career development throughout the month of November. Stay tuned for additional information.
Q: How can high school students develop their careers?
A: The best way for high school students to develop their careers is to do some career exploration! You can take some career assessments to find out more about yourself and your skills to see what careers may best suit you and your interests. The more you know about yourself, the easier it will be to find careers that you may enjoy and excel in.
Q: Where can I take career assessments?
A: YouScience Brain Games, Career OneStop, O*Net, Big Future, & K12 have some great career assessments. You can find links to all of these resources HERE.
Q: What do I do once I've taken career assessments?
A: Research some of the careers! View some of the salaries of the jobs that look interesting to you. Find out what further education is needed (if any) in order to go into those specific career fields. Not all careers require college! The websites that have career assessments also have career research tools! O*Net is one of our favorites sites to start with as it has over 900 different careers to research!
Q: Who can I talk to with career exploration questions?
A: Your School Counselor! The school counselors will hold Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings with each grade level so students can discuss their future plans. You can also reach out to your school counselor any time with career exploration questions. 12th grade IGP meetings have already taken place, but you can always reach out to your school counselor with questions about career exploration.
Q: How do I know who my school counselor is?
A: School counselors are assigned based on the student's last name. View the list below:
Mrs. Emmons A-Bo
Mrs. Koepke Br-D
Mrs. Heicher E-I
