All About Zodiac Signs
By Lilah DeClara
A zodiac sign is something that connects your birthday to a certain sign. Each sign has a symbol, and some are animals. Zodiac signs have been around for a really long time, but how did they start?
About 2,500 to 4,000 years ago, the Babylonians looked at the night sky to help them track time and seasons. They split the path of the sky into 12 equal parts and named them after constellations (patterns of stars). Later, the Greeks used and improved this system.
These 12 constellations became the 12 zodiac signs. The signs are also connected to the seasons. Each season has three signs, and each sign has a type and an element like fire, earth, air, or water.
Each season has three zodiac signs, and each one is a different mix of type and element.
In spring, Aries is cardinal fire, Taurus is fixed earth, and Gemini is mutable air. In summer, Cancer is cardinal water, Leo is fixed fire, and Virgo is mutable earth. In fall, Libra is cardinal air, Scorpio is fixed water, and Sagittarius is mutable fire. In winter, Capricorn is cardinal earth, Aquarius is fixed air, and Pisces is mutable water.
There are also exact birthdays that decide which zodiac sign you are (shown in the photo to the left). The month you are born in matches the same season in the zodiac system. For example, someone who is an Aries is born in the spring and also represents spring in the zodiac.
So if you think about it, if you say, “I was born in winter,” you could also say, “I’m a Capricorn.” But which zodiac sign are YOU? Either way, all zodiac signs have fun and surprising stories!
