Review of the Bambu Lab 3D Printer
by Benjamin Morse
Unboxing:
When you first open the box, the printer is well-protected with plenty of styrofoam to keep it safe during shipping.
Setup:
Setting up the printer takes about 30–40 minutes. While the included instructions are somewhat vague, YouTube tutorials are very helpful. The basic steps:
Remove protective foam and screws.
Load the filament through the extruder.
Attach the toolhead and spool holder.
Connect the AMS Lite (if included).
Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate (about 20 minutes).
Bind the printer to the Bambu Handy app via QR code for Wi-Fi and remote monitoring.
Once this is done, you’re ready to start printing.
Printing:
For your first print, try the printer’s default models. The Bambu Handy app has hundreds of thousands of pre-made models to choose from. You can view print time, filament colors, and reviews before sending a print directly to the printer. Large models will automatically generate supports—don’t worry, the printer isn’t broken! Carefully remove the supports after printing; a scraper can help remove tricky prints from the bed.
Requirements:
The printer needs proper ventilation, so an open window is recommended.
Filament:
Filament costs around $22–$25 per spool, but discounts are available (10 spools for $14.99 each is the best deal). For a starter set of five colors, I recommend red, yellow, green, white, and black.
Final Thoughts:
I give the Bambu Lab A1 Mini five stars. Watching it print is fun, the quality of the finished models is excellent, and there’s endless variety thanks to pre-made and custom designs. For beginners, it’s one of the most affordable and reliable options, costing around $400.00. I would 100% recommend it for anyone looking to start 3D printing. 👩💻👨💻

The Great Debate of Winter Things
by Lilah DeClara
In M.S. 407, we voted on the best winter-themed poll questions based on the opinions of sixth-graders. Winter-themed poll questions help show people’s preferences and experiences during the cold season. Polls are useful because they reveal the average opinions of a group. These questions also engage participants by connecting to the unique joys and excitement of wintertime.
For the first question, nutmeg or hot chocolate, hot chocolate won by a landslide. Hot chocolate received 98.6 percent of the votes, while nutmeg earned only 1.4 percent. Although the difference is very large, most people would not be surprised due to the high demand for hot chocolate, especially during the wintertime. In conclusion, hot chocolate is clearly a fan favorite among the M.S. 407 community!
For the next question, choosing between building a snowman and going sledding, sledding won by a large margin. This result may have been expected because, although both activities are fun, many people tend to favor sledding. However, when it’s snowing outside, be sure to try both activities to enjoy the best winter experience!
For question three, the winner was being an elf. This question was very close, making it hard to predict which option would win. The Grinch is a very popular movie, and Elf on the Shelf is a well-known character. It seems that most people would rather live on a shelf!
Wow! Question number four was really close, but the winner was to live in Whoville. This one was the closest of all the questions, off by 8.4 points! This one could have been suspected, but not by such a close gap. Both have a lot to do with snow and winter, but just like Whoville, there's no comparison when it comes to living in an amazing winter wonderland.
For the final question, the winning choice was “snow every single day.” Many people expected this option to win, but a significant number of voters still chose "no snow at all." The demand for snow during winter is very high because it is often the highlight of the cold season. What would you vote for—being an elf at the North Pole or sipping hot chocolate while snow falls outside?
What do you prefer—being an elf at the North Pole or sipping hot chocolate while snow falls outside? There were countless fun possibilities in this poll, and it was all made possible by the M.S. 407 community!
