Try new foods
Something you could do over the summer is try new foods. Whether it be a new food combination you saw on TikTok, or something from a different culture, or even an old family recipe, cooking is a fun way to spend your time. It is an opportunity to find foods you like (and possibly dislike), and even expand your taste. Who knows, you might find out that you love avocados but hate spinach. Plus, if you enjoy posting on social media, you could post your new tasty dishes and food adventures.
Find a new hobby
You’ll possibly be bored over the summer, so, a great solution for that would be to find a new hobby. You could learn how to ride a bike, or even learn a new language, or even [add third thing]. Since you’ll have no school, or assignments due at 11:59, you’ll have all the time in the world to do this new hobby. Who knows, maybe you could meet some new friends during the upcoming school year who enjoy the same hobbies.
Explore New York City
New York City is huge, and you have all the time in the world, so why not use that time to explore and find new hangout spots? The summer is when New York City essentially reaches its peak activity, with multiple cheap pop-up shops, to the greenest grass in the parks. Before summer, you might have had little to no time to explore since you had to make it home before midnight. But now, since your schedule is free, why not take advantage of that? Summer is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and go to places/boroughs you would have never expected to go to.
Internships
The summer is the perfect time to search for internships that will look good on future resumes. Many programs start during the summer, where many people have the time. There are many different types of internships, all of which have different stipends and action requirements. A majority of internships are geared towards a specific field, so it’s important to find one that’s in a field that you enjoy.
Explore public parks around the city
New York is full of different types of parks that are easily accessible through public transportation. The weather during the summer makes the exploration of these parks the most pleasant. Since the weather is warm, you can spend time going outside and learning new things about the city. Most parks have many different ways to explore them, whether you want a little walk or to spend a long time outside. Many parks also have playgrounds and vendors that you can spend your time at.
Work on a passion project
A passion project is a great way to expand upon your existing hobbies or find something new that you enjoy. The great thing about passion projects is that there aren’t any limits about what you could do. You could do something that centers around you, like a photo album or personal blog. Other projects could be more community focused, such as volunteering in your community or starting your own initiative. No matter what path you take, you’re going to get to spend more time doing activities that make you happy. By the end of the summer you could even share this project with friends and family, and you might even inspire them to do the same kind of project.
