Thinking of assistive technology for your student?
Click to access AT Consideration Checklist
This checklist was designed to support IEP Teams in their thorough consideration of AT devices for students with disabilities. The AT devices included on this checklist are not exhaustive, so IEP teams are encouraged to make other student-specific considerations outside of the items on this checklist if necessary. This checklist is for consideration purposes and may be used to support the assessment of an assistive technology device (or devices) for an individual student.
Utilize the short questionnaire designed to assist and guide the school-based IEP team with making consideration for assistive technology for students with disabilities. Under IDEA, AT Consideration is required prior to any IEP meeting. It is best practice and recommended that the school-based IEP teams go through an AT consideration 2-3 months before the IEP meeting date for all students with disabilities. Feel free to use this as often as needed.

After Consideration for Assistive Technology following best practices by the IEP/504 Team, does the student require assistive technology?
If the student does not require AT at this time. Leverage EdTech/Instructional Technology and re-consider AT before the next IEP meeting, and each year thereafter.
At any point during the Consideration Process, you can reach out to an AT specialist to support your decision-making.
