The New York City Public Schools’ Global Leaders Academy aims to provide multilingual and immigrant students with the opportunity to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), while developing their leadership, language and critical 21st century skills. This program includes four components: Introduction of UNSDGs, leadership development, cultural connections, and individual & group projects.
The Immigrant Ambassador Program is a near-peer mentorship and community awareness program designed to prioritize postsecondary planning for multilingual and immigrant high school students. Through this program, select NYC college students are trained to provide one-on-one and small group workshops centering the needs of multilingual and immigrant communities.
GenConnect is an 8-week intergeneration program that brings multilingual students and their families together in a unique environment that fosters and develops strong family bonds, advocacy, literacy, and social emotional support. The program consists of opportunities to explore family stories, deepen connections between generations, and encourage the use of home languages. Through shared reading and discussion of books that center migration and universal themes of humanity, families strengthen their bilingual literacy and cultural pride together.
A Dream Squad is a team of 3 or more school or district-based staff who serve as multilingual and immigrant advocates and work together to ensure a welcoming and inclusive school environment for students and families.
