I think art making has impacted my quarantine because art makes quarantine easier. I like art because it makes me feel calm when I'm mad or sad and it cheers me up. I don't like quarantine because we have to stay home and are not able to see our friends and family. Since I don't like quarantine, I think art can cheer me up and make me forget all the times I have gone through stress about quarantine.
This piece is inspired by quarantine because since we're home all the time, we can watch movies and I do that sometimes. Most of my family likes superhero movies and that got me interested in creating a Super Girl artwork. She is my favorite superhero because she represents girl power as well. The theme that I want to express in this artwork is that you can like whatever you want because some people think it's bad that boys like girl things and girls like boy things. There is no such thing as a boy item or girl item. There also isn't anything wrong with me liking superheroes because people say superheroes is a boy thing but I don't think or like that. I represented my theme by showing the colors of my favorite superhero. I think my art represents my theme because I was inspired by superheroes. So it got me thinking " Why not make a superhero mandala of my favorite superhero? "- Sarina Reyes

I am so lucky to have Ms. Larson as my art teacher because she allowed me to use my creativity during the quarantine. I enjoy making art in every form and I like to use vivid art colors to make collages. On Zoom Art sessions with Ms. Larson I get inspired by the art, artists and art methods she shows and teaches us. Art has affected me very positively. I love doing collages, painting and making paper sculptures.
The theme in this piece of artwork is Cityscape Shape Collage. I made the city in the nighttime to represent the city sleeping during the pandemic. I used cut out shapes of different sizes and colors for the buildings and skyscrapers and the Moon. I used a black sheet of paper to represent the city at night and made all the color cut out shapes pop-out in vivid colors against the black background. This represents all life and energy of the city. I made a heart shape on the corner of the page to send love to all the people and children affected by the pandemic.-Astrea Sorin

Miles Wu, 4th GradeTree Silhouette with the SkyTalented and Gifted School for Young ScholarsTeacher: Suzanne TabriziPrincipal: Jonathan Dascal

I really enjoy making art. Art is fun during remote school. It has helped me a lot when I've felt stressed or bored during quarantine. My artwork shows the silhouette of a tree in front of a colorful sunset on a hike. I normally see a lot of buildings outside my window and wish I could be outdoors more instead of being home a lot this past year. I want to see more trees like this one, be in nature and go on hikes more. I showed how I feel in my drawing since the tree is like Covid, blocking out some light, and the sunset in the background is vibrant and hopeful to show that things will be better soon.
