In the Percussion Ensemble we play drums and other percussion instruments like xylophone, cymbals, and cat pianos!
Students will improve their technique on the instruments, while learning to read music. Learning to perform music in a group is a special skill that we build in class.
All of our hard work culminates a number of performances throughout the year. The Jackson Heights Halloween parade on Halloween, the Winter Concert in January, the Spring Concert in May, and the Queens Pride Parade in June.
September-December: Students will being with bucket drumming to learn to read and perform new concepts such as:
Correct Stick Technique
Rhythm Reading
Rhythmic Composition & Improvisation
Aural Comprehension (listening closely to music)
January-June: Students will continue to strengthen pervious skills while adding pitched percussion like xylophones. We'll add new concepts in the Spring such as:
Pitch Reading
Melodic Composition & Improvisation
