These supplementary scaffolds have been designed for you by teams of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Science and English as a New Language teachers under the guidance of the Office of Multilingual Learners (OML) during the summer of 2024.
The following materials are suggested by the D75 Science Office to support all teachers & students.
Use the Jokari Soda Pump to create air pressure in the bottle instead of squeezing the body of the bottle.
You still need to use WATER and a MATCH, as the investigation calls for, because of some of the related questions in the student packet.
Use AQUANEAT 6 PCS Aquarium Thermometer Strips on the outside of the bottle. After testing, it appears to have similar results as the thermometer used inside the bottle.
RED indicates approaching temperature
GREEN indicates current temperature
BLUE indicates temperature just above this number
The prong wires make it easier to fasten to the lightbulb holders.
"The Assessment in Science asks students to demonstrate scientific knowledge and to apply scientific concepts, formulate hypotheses, make predictions, or use other scientific inquiry techniques. The 2026 Science test for grades five and eight each consist of a single session that will be administered in one day. Students will have as much time as necessary within the confines of the regular school day to complete the test. The test is taken on the computer."
