About Us
The NYCPS Continuous Learning (CL) Program began in 2017, with 10 schools in districts 21 and 22. It focused on building the capacity of educators to strengthen the achievement of Multilingual Learners (MLs) students in Brooklyn South, who spoke over 60 home languages. As the multi-year initiative evolved, we became a Networked Improvement Community (NIC) focused on improving instruction for Multilingual Learners (MLs) students in districts 9 and 10 in the Bronx with later inclusion of schools citywide. In Spring 2024, our work concluded with 29 active schools that served Multilingual Learners (ML) students.
The Continuous Learning (CL) Program engaged stakeholders from school communities to teach principles of improvement science (IS), use cycles of learning to test and strengthen strategic change ideas, and encourage learning across school teams. This work was conducted with a specific focus on racial and linguistic equity for Black and/or Latinx Multilingual Learners (MLs). Improvement science practices help us know our students - especially the students who have been historically underserved and overlooked. Improvement science is a means to a goal; the goal is to create a more equitable system.
The resources included on this site are the result of collaboration with teachers to support sustainability for existing schools and schools new to Improvement Science.
Network Aim
We aim to dramatically increase the number of Black and/or Latinx middle school MLs excelling in literacy and content to ensure they are ready to shine in high school and take on the world.
