The Academy of American Poets, was founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry— the producer of Poets.org, Poem-a-Day, National Poetry Month, and more.

The Poetry Archive is a collection of poems read by the poets. These recordings are searchable and free. They also have the Children's Poetry Archive which is filled with poems written for children on a fun and easy website.

Favorite Poem Project: Americans Saying Poems They Love, was founded by Robert Pinsky, the 39th Poet Laureate of the United States, It features videos of people reading their favorite poems and explaining why poetry is important to them.

Poetry 180: A Poem a Day for American High Schools, created by Billy Collins, U.S. Poet Laureate, 2001-2003, from the Library of Congress

This collection of poems was selected for high school students. Collins includes a useful article “How to Read a poem Out Loud” and a recorded message with an example of a poem read aloud.

The Library of Congress Poetry Resources website is a comprehensive guide to locating poetry resources available at the Library of Congress. Some links are outdated, but there are interesting resources, including Civil War poetry, Presidents as Poets and the National Projects of U.S. Poets Laureates.

Representative Poetry Online, edition 6.0, is a web anthology of 4,800 poems in English and French by over 700 poets spanning 1400 years. The website is based on Representative Poetry, a book first published by the University of Toronto in 1912. The collection is searchable by poets, poems and poetry. It also includes a glossary and criticism.

The Poetry Translation Centre features the best contemporary poems from Africa, Asia and Latin America translated into the English language, The website is searchable by poem, poets, country and language. They provide the English version as well as the poem in its original language. The website also has podcasts and articles about poets around the world.

Power Poetry is a place made for youth to express themselves. Poetry Power believes that if young people find their voice, they can change the world. Find tips of writing poems, spoken word, poetry slams and more.

Urban Word NYC provides NYC youth opportunities in literacy, leadership, writing, college prep, and performance. Every year Urban Word supports over 25,000 NYC teens in the art of spoken word poetry. They offer free virtual workshops, poetry slams, open mics and more.

The National Youth Poet Laureate Program was launched in 2008 by Urban Word, the NYC Voters Assistance Commission and the NYC Mayor's office. It has expanded to more than 41 cities across the U.S. In 2016 the first contest for National Youth Poet Laureate was launched. In April of 2017 Amanda Gorman was named the first National Youth Poet Laureate.

"The Bollingen Prize for Poetry at Yale University was established in 1948 by Paul Mellon, and over the past five decades has honored some of the most revered names in American poetry. The prize is awarded every two years for the best volume of poetry published in those years or for a poet's lifetime achievement in his or her art."
