The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) connects NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, as well as gain workplace readiness skills.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is currently accepting applications for the 2022 High School Summer Internship Program. The application, which is open to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors, whom live or go to school in Manhattan is open from January 31st – March 18th, 2022 at 5 pm. This rigorous internship will provide an insider’s view of the criminal justice system. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in workshops and discussions about criminal justice, civic engagement, leadership, and more.

Arts, Community and Environmental Stewards - Wave Hill’s Art, Community and Environmental Stewards (ACES) program offers a year-long paid internship that invites young people ages 16 to 20 to explore the connections between community engagement and nature-informed arts education. Interns work together to imagine and share new possibilities for their relationships to community and the environment using lessons provided by nature, and apply them to art making and storytelling. Interns work to foster connections to land and culture with Family Art Project participants, as they address their own histories, experiences and legacies as young people affecting social and environmental change in New York City. Woodland Ecology Research Mentorship - WERM interns take on different responsibilities over the course of 14 months, growing into independent researchers by the end of the program. During their first summer, interns participate in two college-level courses and engage in forest restoration. Throughout the academic year, interns build their knowledge of New York City's natural areas and learn important research skills through workshops and field trips. In the spring and following summer, interns take a third college-level course and work together with scientist-mentors to conduct research on an ecological topic before presenting their research at graduation. The Met High School Internship Program offers paid opportunities for students who are in grades 10 and 11. This program allows students to connect with art, museums, and creative professionals as they develop professional skills, network, and gain work experience. They are committed to addressing diversity in arts, museums, and creative careers. They are seeking interns with diverse backgrounds and interests who are excited about sharing their skills and ideas. Students who are members of groups that are historically underrepresented in these fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
This internship experience is not limited to young people who have a passion for art! The High School Internship Program allows you to connect one-on-one and in small cohorts with Museum professionals in a number of related fields, including editorial, marketing, social media, education, and more. During your time at The Met, you have the chance to find the intersection of your interests as you gain insights from peers and professionals.

In the 2-week Summer Immersion Program (SIP), high school students attend live, virtual classes sponsored by industry-leading companies like MetLife, Bank of America, and Accenture. SIP students will get an Introduction to Game Design. Let’s Get Ready begins with the College Access Program, a 10-week curriculum administered by trained college student coaches that includes SAT prep, college application guidance, scholarship application support, and more. The program is provided at no cost to high school seniors and juniors with qualifying financial need.
Programs are offered during the fall, spring, and summer and are built upon close partnerships with colleges, high schools and community organizations. This term, our virtual program includes:

The TECH360 Summer Bootcamp is an intensive, 3-week program where students learn how to code through web design and web development. Throughout the program students will learn industry-aligned technical and professional skills, gaining knowledge of key coding languages and frameworks including HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
During the final week of the program, students will put their knowledge to the test and work in teams to create and present a final website during the end-of-program Demo Day Competition.
Most sessions will be hosted via Zoom and students who successfully complete the program will receive a $500 stipend.

BALi’s mission is to inspire youth, including youth from underrepresented groups, such as female-identifying, LGBTQI and gender-expansive individuals, to become effective, dynamic and visionary 21st century leaders as well as active and creative participants in civic, political, corporate and community life. This program provides the skills set and the social-emotional learning needed by the current generation of young women, men and gender-expansive youth, to gain the knowledge and the confidence needed to become leaders in all circles of life.
*The summer program is open to all youth, ages 13-21 years old, residing in or from NYC metropolitan area. There are no academic or skills criteria, however there is an application and a short interview that follows as part of the selecting process. The Octavia Project Summer Institute is a free summer workshop program based in Brooklyn for young women and trans, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming youth ages 14-18 to bridge their love of science fiction, writing, art, and technology!
Their 5 week program runs from July 5 – August 4, 2022. We meet four days a week—Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays—from 12:30pm-4:30pm. We are planning to host an in-person Summer Institute for 2022 in Brooklyn, should COVID regulations allow.

Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP) provides a six week summer placement opportunity for students entering their and freshmen and sophomore years in college, who have expressed an interest in the health field. Students are exposed to a variety of careers in the health fields as well as to health issues affecting their communities.
Students will intern at their designated sites three days per week for five hours per day, with mandatory didactic sessions once per week. These sessions encompass a full day and include lectures, field trips, and other health related activities. At the end of the program, students will be required to attend a closing ceremony and present a final project.

Teen Sailing Camp: New program for older students (ages 14-17)
udson River Community Sailing (HRCS) is a non-profit youth development and community sailing organization with locations in Chelsea and Inwood. We develop leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through partnerships with public schools, and our diverse and vibrant community sailing center provides maritime education and recreation to the city at large. Core to our work is the belief that everyone can learn to sail, and that sailing provides a unique opportunity for growth and discovery.
Students will follow the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Curriculum and develop their leadership skills. Optional $50 fee to receive a US Sailing Basic Keelboat Book and Certification (multiple choice test required to obtain certification).

This two-week camp is taught by Detroit Writing Room and New York Writing Room coaches. The coaches are all award-winning journalists who have worked at publications from The New York Times and Wall Street Journal to The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.
Over the two weeks, students will report and write their own story on a topic of their choice. They will also be paired with an Editing Coach to receive feedback and editing. On the last day, students will share their stories with the group.
The cost of this program is $499, however underrepresented students who attend high school in New York City are eligible to apply for The Deadline Club Teen Scholarship to attend the virtual journalism camp free of charge. (See Program Application to apply for the scholarship)
Students will also have opportunities to pitch their stories to local publications, including Detour Detroit and Model D.

Street Lab Teens offers New York City youth a chance to support and shape Street Lab’s mission of bringing community-oriented programming to neighborhood public spaces across New York City.
Working closely with Street Lab staff, a team of ten teens will help develop and lead select Street Lab programs, all of which take place outdoors and have been re-designed for COVID.
One focus of this first teen cohort will be Street Lab’s program Street Marker, which uses chalk tools to bring colorful collaborative temporary murals to city streets. Students will propose mural designs, engage public of all ages in creation, and bring their unique voices to this program’s development and execution. Artistic skills are welcomed, but not required!
When:
Program runs April/May through August, 2021. Admission to the program will be on a rolling basis April 15 through May 1, until slots are filled.
What is expected of you:
You will help run at least eight deployments of Street Marker or other Street Lab programs (all in-person at outdoor, public locations – see the calendar of events). Deployments are three to four hours.
Attendance at four virtual monthly meetings.
What you will get:

experience working with Street Lab staff, community partners, and the public, which can translate to great professional/college application experience;

Columbia Engineering Summer High School Academic Program for Engineers (SHAPE) is a selective summer high school program for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. SHAPE is geared toward local students who have demonstrated an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Greene Institute is a one-week residential program for aspiring reporters in their sophomore or junior year of high school. The program accepts students from across Long Island and NYC. Students will work closely with staff and faculty from the School of Journalism and hone your reporting skills while you learn to shoot and edit video, produce a news show, and write for a variety of media platforms.
In response to concerns overCovid-19 the 2021 Greene Summer Institute held on July 18th through July 24th will take place virtually. Under the guidance of professional journalists, students will work remotely from home to report on important stories and create content for the web. Please note there is a program fee.

AI Scholars Live Online is a 10-session (25 hours) pre-college enrichment program that exposes high school students (Grades 9-12) to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and guides them to build a socially impactful project in areas including medicine, astronomy, journalism, finance, and more.
