English

In English/project this week, we are learning the story of the Ramayana. Here is a copy of the story, that we learn as an oral story. That means that our teacher tells it to us without pictures, then we map it together and learn to retell it by ourselves. Below is a copy of the text for parents to read to their children, and a copy of the completed map. There is also a blank map, for children to have a go by themselves. Don't worry if you don't have a printer - this can be drawn out on paper. There are 10 parts to the story :)

We will be thinking about the characters in the story and trying to describe them using different adjectives so you can try this at home too!

Maths

In maths this week, we are learning how to add small quantities together to find the total (addition) and how to take one small quantity away from another to find what's left (subtraction).

At home this week, you can practise this by adding and subtracting your toys or other objects around the home. We learn how to use a 'part part whole' model to add together two 'parts' to find the 'whole' so you can also practise this at home too :)

English

In English/project this week, we are thinking about the people in our class that make it special. We will be drawing pictures of our friends and labelling their names next to their pictures. As an extension, the children will use their sounds to attempt to write words to describe their friends, such as 'kind', 'happy', 'friendly' etc. You can click on the image to download the template we are using, or just have a go at doing this activity on paper.

We are also going to be learning a little bit of information about our three class namesakes. Please click on the images below to find out more about your class namesake.

Maths

In maths, we are looking at the numbers 4, 5, and 6. For each number, we focus on counting out quantities accurately, comparing the quantities to put them in order, and recognise the numerals in and out of order.

We are using 3 different songs for this unit: 4 little ducks, 5 little speckled frogs, 6 fairy cakes in a bakers shop. At home, you can find these songs on Youtube and sing along too! Practise counting out different quantities of objects, adding 1 to find 'one more', or taking 1 away to find 'one fewer'.

Here is a link to some activities you can do at home:

We are continuing to focus on instant recognition of red words - me, I, you, we, and this week will also learn 'to' and 'the'.

Wb. 9th October

English

In English/project this week, we are thinking about our value of Humanity and how we can be kind to everyone! During the week, we will talk about different ways to show kindness, both through our actions and our words. Then all of the children will think of a way they could show kindness and we will photos of them acting it out. At home, you can talk about how to be kind and helpful, and take photos of different ways to show this.

We also made kindness cards for our friends to say thank you for being kind and friendly to us. You can make a card at home to give to your friend when you return to school.

Maths

In Maths this week, we are looking deeply at the numbers 1-3, counting out quantities and finding 1 more and 1 less. We will use the nursery rhyme of '3 blind mice' as our song of the week, putting the number mice in order, and feeding them the correct quantity of cheese. At home, you can look at these mice and have a go at 'feeding' them the correct amount too!

Phonics

Our new sounds this week are 'g','o','c'.

We have been practising blending the words cat, dog, dig, map, mop, cot, top, got, pin, mad, pat, tap, dad, sat, sit, pip, pop
