As mentioned in the video, if your child finds it extremely difficult to write a sentence, please just try to do one or two sentences at a time, then revisit it later. Some children will be able to easily write multiple sentences independently in one go, and others may struggle writing a single sentence with your help. By the end of Reception, children should be able to write multiple simple sentences, but we understand if your child is still finding it difficult. Please email your child's teacher if you have any concerns.
This week we are starting a new story - Monkey Puzzle. Watch the story on YouTube and then watch Ms Gourley's lesson.
Today's lesson is all about oracy and speaking. It is really important that children practise speaking in full sentences before they do any writing later in the week. Look out for the sentence stems to help you show excellence in your speaking!
Today we will be thinking about the values of Excellence, Humanity and Openness - what values will you show?
If you haven't already, make sure you read and discuss our new story - Monkey Puzzle.
If you want to show excellence, have a go at writing a book review for Monkey Puzzle.
Can you use these sentence starters?
I liked...
I didn't like...
My favourite part was...
My least favourite part was...
Remember to use your PHONICS in your writing.
Today we are going to look a little bit more at mammals and discuss what a mammal is and looks like. We are going to be doing lots of thinking and comparing, so I hope you have your excellence brains on!

Today we will use all that we have learned about mammals and our life cycle drawing from Monday to write a few sentences about our animal.
By the end of Reception, children should be able to use their phonic sounds to read and write short, simple sentences. Watch the video of Ms. Watts if your child is struggling with writing sentences and for an example.
For today's challenge, you can have a go at creating a zoo exhibit by having your child pretend to work at a zoo. You could even make a sign and tickets! Pretend to visit the zoo and then your child can read you their writing to show what they have learned.
Encourage your child to share their work with other friends or family members that you may talk to online.

Watch the two videos below, then the video lesson.
Today's challenge is to think about things that you can do now, and something you can't do yet, but could one day with practice. In Year 1, you will have to begin new and more difficult work, but it's important to try your best to get better with lots of practice.
If you would like to hear another story about having a growth mindset and not giving up, we recommend this story. It was a favourite in Parks class.
