Newton Class (Ms Ingram); Parks Class (Ms Watts); DeCoubertin Class (Ms James)
Everyday we shall be uploading some maths and literacy activity ideas which you can do together at home. Please do not feel like you need to upload everything you do on Tapestry and please just upload things that your children are really proud of.
Have a go at trying a few of the word problems below. If you would like a challenge, have a go at writing a few of your own and let a sibling or parent solve it.
Over the next two days we would like you to write a story, just like we did in the hangout today. You can use these two spinning wheels to help pick your character and setting or you might want to come up with your own idea.
Choose an activity from day 1 or 2 that you haven't tired yet.
Please choose one or two activities to do today with your children.
We continued our new project, "What are the ingredients of a good story?" by reading the story of The Enormous Turnip. This week we have been focussing on the 'problems' in different stories and finding ways to solve them so that the story can have a happy ending.
For homework, you can retell the story to your family and tell them all about the problem in the story and how it was fixed. You could even have a go at making up your own story with its own problem to fix! We can't wait to see what you do!
We have a creative maths activity for you this week! We would like you to pick a number between 1-20 and make a poster for that number. You can decorate it and use different objects on your poster to represent that number. We would love to display them in our classrooms so you can bring them into school with you next week!
Next week we will be going on our first school trip - to Stratford Library! In class, we will be talking lots about how we will stay safe while walking to and from the library. This weekend, we would like you to go for a walk with an adult and talk about all of the ways that you are staying safe on your journey.
We continued our new project, "What are the ingredients of a good story?" by reading the story of Hansel and Gretel. We have been looking at the setting of the story and retelling the story. through role play, caption writing and speech bubbles.
For homework, retell the story of Hansel and Gretel to someone in your family. Draw a picture of your favourite part and do some writing independently about that part of the story.
This week we have recapped sharing into equal and unequal groups.
For homework, you can have a tea party for your toys and explore sharing out food. Have you shared into equal or unequal groups? How do you know? How would you make it equal?
This week in the whole of School 21, we have been developing our speaking skills through 'probing pair talk'. In Reception, children have been working with their talk partner to develop their question skills in order to find out more. We have been learning how to ask specific questions or to say "Tell me more about....." when you would like your partner to tell you more.
For homework, we would like you to try to ask lots of questions! I wonder what will you find out by asking a question?
This week we began our new project "What are the ingredients of a good story?". We started with the story of Rapunzel and have been focussing on different characters, as well as retelling the story through role play, caption writing and speech bubbles.
For homework, retell the story of Rapunzel to someone in your family. Draw a picture of your favourite part and do some writing independently about that part of the story.
This week we have recapped measuring, including height, weight and capacity.
For homework, you can explore capacity and measuring by making some playdough at home with an adult! Then you can use your own playdough to make anything you want to!

This week in Shared reading, we have been reading a poem called "Safe in the Sun". We have been practising our red and green words, as well as talking about what we stay safe when it is hot and sunny.
There are some great resources on this website https://nationalschoolspartnership.com/initiatives/wrap-splat-hat/ that you can use to discuss sun safety at home and talk together about the ways to look after ourselves in warm weather.
We are currently working on a unit on Money during our maths lessons. We have looked at different coins up to 20p and we are learning to combine the different coins to find a total.
For homework, we would like you to explore adding different coins together to find a total. You can even write equations if you want to!
We have now learned lots of Red words and are very impressed with how children are reading them in their books and using their purple Sounds and Words books to practise them.
For homework, we would like you to have a go at writing some sentences containing red words. You can talk with an adult to decide what you want to write, but we would like you to do the writing all by yourself, trying to spell all of the red words that you know!
We have been working hard throughout the year to develop the Reception outside area and we would love to hear some feedback from the children about what they enjoy doing and what they would like to have more of.
Over the weekend, we would like you to spend time discussing outside play and talk about what you like and what you want to do more of. You can draw a picture with your parents scribing, or make a video recording some of your thoughts.
Next week we are going to be writing a nonfiction book about an animal of our choice. Talk about animals and choose an animal to write your book about. What facts do you know about this animal? Can you find out about the life cycle of that animal? If you can bring a picture of your animal to school to talk to your friends about.
This week we have been learning how to find one more using a number line. Can you use this random number generator and find one more than the number you land on?
his week we have been practising our reading skills by drawing pictures. Can you draw pictures to match these sentences?
This week we innovated the story of the very hungry caterpillar by changing what he ate on Saturday. We used the box up to help us you can make one of these for your story if you want to. Can you innovate one of your favourite stories from home? What would you change about it?
This week we have been learning the numbers 15 -20. Can you spot this on a walk? Can you represent them using your toys?
This week we have been learning to spot the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. For your homework can you find a non-ficition book about something of interest to you. Can you search for the following - headings, photographs, page numbers, contents page?
Can you tell your parents these numbers? Can you order the numbers 10-15? Can you find that number of toys? Can you draw that number of objects? Can you represent these numbers using a part whole model?
Practise reading and writing these red words. Some of these words you may know really well and some might be new to you. Can you put them into sentences?
Can you retell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar using our story map?
This week we have been focussing on counting backwards, finding 1 fewer, and subtracting small quantities from another. We really enjoyed watching this video and building our confidence to count backwards! For home work, we would like you to practise your backwards counting and play quick-fire games of "1 fewer" up to 15.
This week in project, we have been learning about to keep ourselves safe and healthy. As part of this, we have been learning about healthy eating and the importance of a variation of foods and making healthy choices. For homework, we would like children to write a healthy shopping list using their phonics skills to write each word.
It would be brilliant if they could help you to write your own shopping lists and even participate in the shopping!
We are coming to the end of our project which asked "Why do we grow up?" so now we would like children to reflect on what they have found out this term. Here is the breakdown of what we have learned each week to help with this discussion and support children to think about what they have learned and if they now know the answer of why we grow up!
This week in Maths, we have been working hard to count on when adding 2 quantities together. Keep practising this at home over the next week. You can have a go at solving some of the equations here or try some of your own! Use objects to help you but remember to start counting on from the first number. EG for the first one. "4... 5,6,7. 4 plus 3 is equal to 7"
(Parents - please email your child's teacher if you would like any help or support with this)
Here are lots of pictures. Pick one or two of them to write about all by yourself. Or you could even find some pictures online (with an adult's help) of something that you love and want to write about!
Note to parents: Some children are starting to write simple sentences by themselves but if your child is still just writing words, that's fine! Please encourage them to write independently using their phonic skills.
This upcoming week, we will be thinking about all of the ways we can keep ourselves healthy and safe when we are at school.
While you're at home this weekend, think about all of the ways you stay safe in your home. Maybe you have special things around your home to protect you and your family? Talk to an adult about why they are there and why they are important!
The children have settled back into school so well and we are very proud of how resilient they have been. Thank you so much to parents and families for all of the wonderful support you provided at home over the difficult past few months. We will now continue to use this page for weekend homework activities.
This weekend, we would like children to reflect on what it was like to learn at home. You can draw a picture and ask an adult to write down what you say, or you can ask them to record you talking about what it was like to learn at home. There are also two templates below that you might want to use to help you. Please upload to Tapestry as "Homework Reflection activity".
This week, we read the poem "Back to school". Read this together at home, trying to instantly recognise some of the red and green words and attempting to read the other words using your sounds.
What has been the best part about being back at school?
This week, we have recapped numbers 11-15 and been practising finding 1 greater and 1 less. For homework, why not try playing the Head to Head game with someone in your family to try to speedily find 1 greater and 1 less within 15!
Please watch this video if you are unsure how to upload to Tapestry. We would like to see something from every child each day - to make it easier, these can all be uploaded in a single observation with multiple photos and a quick summary written by you about what your child did at home during the day. We will be sharing these and sending shine during our morning check-ins each day.
Great news! We can now provide home access to one of our favourite websites. Miss Ingram has made a quick video to introduce you to the website. www.busythings.co.uk
