Coping skills are skills we can use to deal with difficult emotions like anxiety, anger, frustration, and stress. Coping skills can also be used when we are calm to help us increase our positive feelings. Below are some ideas of coping skills kids and teens can try out. Coping skills are not "one size fits all," so be sure to have your student try different ones to see what works for them. Also, as with any skill, remember that "practice makes improvement." Have students practice these skills regularly, even when they are feeling calm. This will make it easier to use these skills when they are feeling upset.
