What's For Lunch?

Where to start...What to Pack?

Packing school lunches is a big but very important daily task. Ensuring your child gets the right balance of healthy, nutritional, and yummy foods they will eat. Having the right supplies will allow more room for creativity and functionality so you don’t get into a lunch packing rut!

Have your child practice opening and closing containers with various lids

Did You say finger foods?

Make sure you make what may be hard sells like fruits and vegetables as easy to eat as possible. Packing an entire orange or apple will probably end up back at home. Your kids aren’t going to peel an orange during their lunch break and a whole apple won’t entice them.

Cutting up fruits and vegetables (like strawberries, apples, watermelon, celery, cucumber and peppers) in bite size pieces, makes it ready to eat and will give your child the time and ease to eat.

Practice...Practice...Practice

Milk cartons, yogurt/fruit cups, snack bags, bananas, plastic containers…all of them take some serious fine motor skills, motor planning, and strength to open! Many children struggle to open the containers in their lunches. They’ll work at it for a second and then give up, shooting their hand into the air to ask for help. To save time and frustration, have them practice! A refillable water bottle is an excellent choice to keep your child hydrated through the day and protect our planet!
