This backpack is a good size. Notice the backpack stretches from the top of the shoulder blades and ends just below the hip area. This approximate size backpack will ensure your child will be able to fit all their essentials!
What to Send on the First Day of School?
Velcro Shoes!
Indoor and Outdoor Shoes
In order for your child to be independent in putting on their shoes and avoid getting frustrated, it is best to buy velcro shoes. If the shoes have laces that are elastic based, but do not require ANY tying, that is ok!
It is required that all students have 1 pair of indoor running shoes that will remain at school. These shoes will be worn in the classroom and in the gym during their scheduled Gym Periods. Therefore, shoes such as Crocs or slippers are not ideal as indoor shoes, due to safety.
Extra Set Of Clothes
To Remain At School
Kids have accidents, ALL TYPES of accidents and that is ok! Ensuring your child has a complete set of extra clothing (underwear, socks, pants, shirt, depending on season) will ensure your child's teacher's can quickly deal with the situation and will avoid you having to make a trip to the school! Please ensure the clothing is in a labeled bag.

Labelling every item related to the kids and school is essential so it's easier for your child to identify their own items. It will stop others from taking what isn't theirs and if it gets lost, having it labelled with their name, will help it get returned.
Labels are a precursor to reading in the primary classroom. No matter what the grade, students who are able to match a picture to a toy will eventually begin to read labels on their own. Labeling is especially important because labels provide visual cues to the location of items throughout your classroom.
Two GREAT ways to label items is to use a Sharpie Marker and write their name or you can use professionally made labels that are iron or stick on that hold up in the wash.
