Santa Cruz Catholic Church provides shortened daily masses and limited student grade levels in attendance to maintain social distancing in the church. Fridays are the only days which will have accompanied music by Mr. Murillo.
It is critical that students get the opportunity to praise God with music as not everyone will be able to have accompanied music during their mass days. For this reason, we have instilled weekly outdoor MUSIC LITURGY LESSONS where Pre-school and Elementary students can sing safely outside with social distancing, take a mask break, and learn proper singing of church music. In these lessons, Mr. Murillo explores the readings for the students' assigned mass days and teaches a song that connects to the scripture. Virtual Home learners can also share in the experience by submitting their recordings using the innovative educational tool FLIPGRID which will have all the songs for that week for each assigned mass day and grade level. The "sing-a-long" videos can also be found on the Cardinal Crest News Broadcast page below the daily broadcasts. We always finish out Liturgy Lessons with a fun and safe music game!
Outdoor music circle games consist of a short song and activity that maintains safety: social distancing with spread out circle placement, every student sanitizing prior to play, sanitized pool noodle for each 'turn' for chase game play, option to be masked/unmasked due to outdoors, and reinforcement of social-emotional development found in music games.
