phenotype

The phenotype refers to the physical expression of an individual's genes (an observable trait!)

EXAMPLES:

• it can refer to anything from a common trait, such as height or hair color, to presence or absence of a disease

• In class, when discussing Mendel's pea plants, the two possible phenotype for color were purple or white.
