Recent years have seen a significant increase in Junior Sports Members (JSMs) at SCC, thanks to the academy's growth and the club's appeal. Our committee is committed to further encouraging this trend, welcoming all young cricket enthusiasts in Singapore to join as JSMs.
According to our club's website and by-laws, a JSM should be aged 13 to 26 and demonstrate a strong aptitude for cricket, with regular participation in the Sports Section's activities. The General Committee (GC) holds the discretion to elect JSMs, focusing on promoting youth development in cricket.
The decision to allow JSMs to play league cricket with other clubs stems from a practical assessment of supply and demand. We face limitations in expanding and managing more league squads. Restricting JSMs from playing elsewhere would either limit young cricketers' opportunities to play in a league or necessitate reducing our JSM numbers. Neither scenario is desirable, as it would either restrict opportunities for talented players or diminish our pool of emerging talent.
By permitting JSMs to explore playing opportunities elsewhere while staying committed to SCC, we aim to foster their development until they are ready to represent SCC at a high standard. This approach also addresses the potential bottleneck at SCC due to the abundance of quality adult players, allowing young players to gain experience in higher divisions at other clubs.
If a JSM wishes to play for another Team/Club (This include Junior leagues from U13 to U19s), they might first seek permission from the Captain of Cricket and the Academy Director.
However, this policy includes certain conditions:
JSMs must meet the required points tally for annual renewal, demonstrating their commitment to the club.
Exclusive training opportunities like Lions training will be off-limits to those playing for other league clubs, though they're free to join other club sessions and socials.
JSMs are welcome on SCC tours, but specific subsidies may not apply to those registered with other league clubs.
Upon transitioning to a Sports Member, players must commit to representing SCC in the league.
If offered conversion to Ordinary Member, any membership discount will be calculated based on the years representing SCC in the league, not for time spent playing elsewhere.
This policy ensures that while we support our players' growth and opportunities, SCC remains their primary affiliation, contributing to our long-term strength and depth in cricket.
