TEAMS
The Commonwealth Cup is comprised of four teams representing the main demographics of the Cricket Section:
The Roti Pratas – Malay Peninsula (Singapore, Malaysia)
Captains: Chirag Shivakumar & Sandeep Maheshwari
The Desi Stars – South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka)
Captains: Tarun Shankar & Suresh Shankar
The Jellyfish – ANZACs (Australia, New Zealand)
Captains: Rob Baddeley & Phil Simmonds
The Hedgehogs – United Kingdom
Captain: James Mumford
Eligibility for the teams has been determined by what passport you hold – dual holders can nominate wherever eligible. For those holding a passport from the ‘rest of the world’, you can nominate for either Hedgehogs or Jellyfish who have struggled for numbers in recent years.
Additionally, players who are available but have not been selected by their ‘native’ squad, will be allowed selection in other squads when they have no eligible player available.
FORMAT
The competition will be a round robin of T20s amongst the four teams. Six matches in total across three days with each team competing on each day. The competition will be ranked and winner determined by the results of the round robin. Two points for a win, 1 for a draw/tie with NRR as the only tie-breaker.
RULES
Squads are broken into FOUR age brackets and each playing XI must contain a minimum of two players from each group. The brackets are: under 20s, 20-34, 35-49 and 50+. Furthermore, each playing XI must field two cricketers from the Women’s Squad. No player is eligible for more than two matches.
One player from each age bracket, and one of the female cricketers, must bat top 5.
4 overs MUST be bowled by each age bracket. No one bowler can bowl more than four overs.
Wides and no balls are worth one run and re-bowled. All no balls result in a free hit. Only one bouncer (shoulder to head height) allowed per over – subsequently will be called no ball.
Batters will retire after 15 balls. A retired batter can return to the crease once all others have batted, in the order they were retired.
A batter can only be retired out after facing one ball.
Weather affected games decided by DLS calculation.
