Student Support Services

The State College Area School District recognizes that there are learners with complex instructional needs who require supplementary aids and services, as well as program modifications, outside of the general education curriculum and routine instructional practices. Students will continue to receive support and/or interventions from a SCASD teacher in every model. These services include academic counseling, instructional technology, and social/emotional support as appropriate.

Gifted Education

  • Gifted Support teachers will be available to identified students to support goals that are specified in the GIEP. Case managers and other members of the educational team will work with families to deliver services in the in-school and remote plan to the extent possible.

  • Referrals for evaluation will continue to be accepted but we may not be able to make a recommendation until sufficient and appropriate evidence is collected as required by Chapter 16 of the school code, which will occur after we resume normal operations.

English Learners (EL) and English Language Development (ELD)

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers will collaborate with families to determine an appropriate educational plan based on student need.

  • EL students will have access to ELD services throughout the entire academic year.

Special Education

  • The IEP team will collaborate to determine the most appropriate educational plan and how services will be provided based on the student's needs.

  • Referrals for identification will continue to be accepted, but we may not be able to make a recommendation until enough evidence is collected as required by Chapter 14 of the school code.

  • Students will continue to have access to related services, which may include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech/Language Therapy, in accordance with the district’s health and safety guidelines.

504 Plans

  • The educational team will collaborate with families to determine the most appropriate educational plan and how accommodations will be rendered based on the student's needs. A student’s accommodations will be provided throughout the academic year to the fullest extent possible, as appropriate.
