SCASD In-school Option

In-school Learning: Students come to school every other day; however, new learning occurs every day. On the days students are not in-school they will join their classes for live synchronous instruction using a video meeting tool. Students will be split by alphabet, and attend their regularly scheduled classes, wear masks, and physically distance by 6 feet.

In-school learning for fall 2020:

  • Students in grades 6-12 will attend in-school classes every other day, split by alphabet (A-L, M-Z). Siblings with different last names may attend on the same day. Students will be expected to join the class via a video meeting tool (such as Zoom or Google Meet) on the day they are not physically in school. Each day the teachers will be presenting new lessons.

  • Students with specific learning needs will be addressed through each educational team.

  • Students and staff will wear masks all day.

  • Student seating will be arranged to maintain 6-foot physical distancing.

  • Grades 7-12 will use a semester-based schedule. High school students will have up to four classes at a time. Middle school students will have three core/team classes and two exploratory classes. This reduces the amount of classes a student must manage and allows for continuous learning. Sixth grade students will continue to have yearlong core and exploratory classes.

  • Physical education will limit activities that require close contact and will follow the protocols in the safety plan including being outdoors as much as possible.

  • Students in grades 6-8 will continue to have general music education with a SCASD music teacher. Adaptations and modifications to the curriculum will be made concerning any activities that involve the expulsion of air, such as singing. The district team is working on the plans for how to offer music lessons and ensembles safely.

  • We are limiting the materials and equipment that students share.

  • All secondary teachers will be using the same platform, Canvas, to post assignments and grades.

  • A primary focus of the first weeks of school will be to build relationships and develop the classroom community. During this time, we also will prioritize training students on technology tools and determining the students' skills.

  • The majority of extracurricular clubs and activities will be virtual.

  • Back-to-School Night will be held virtually.
