Scarsdale Middle School has been an enthusiastic and early adopter of digital resources as an important part of a student's education. From the early days, working with Radio Shack TRS-80s and Apple IIs in the 1980s, and the opening of computer labs of the original Macintosh computers in the 1990s, the faculty has designed educational experiences in which digital resources provide a platform for meeting goals across the curriculum.
The early 2000s saw the beginning of a trend toward more mobile resources that a teacher can bring into the classroom on a cart -- at first, Mac laptops; more recently Chromebooks and iPads, as well. Today, students in every classroom have access to the computing resources a teacher or team of teachers identifies as being most suited to their academic work.
The Middle School's move to 1:1 computing provides students with personal, consistent and sustainable access to computing resources. The school's choice of the iPad as the 1:1 device follows a careful study on the part of the faculty and district.
