When will students receive their iPads?
Students will receive their devices in their classrooms during the first week of school and will be able to take them following an orientation with one of the school's computer teachers and the completion of all forms.
Is content on the iPad filtered in any way?
While our students are in school, their online work runs through a district Internet content filter, which helps to prevent students from accessing inappropriate images and websites. A similar content filter will be used on the iPads when they are outside of school. Because no Internet filter is perfect, we recommend proactive parental monitoring of your child's use of the school iPad.
Will students be using eMail and social media on the iPads?
Student can not send or receive emails outside the Scarsdale domain unless the site has been whitelisted. Teachers will explain to students how any online systems using student eMail accounts for notifications and reporting information will be used in class. No social media apps are on the iPads. Use of social media through a web browser is governed by the school's internet filter.
Can a student use a personal Apple ID to download apps or back up to iCloud?
No. The devices are managed through an MDM (Mobile Device Management) system, which allows the school to configure the iPads. Students will be taught how to back up important work to Google Drive. Students will be provided with an Apple ID managed by the District.
Is there a cost for the iPad and case?
No. The school district owns the devices and will distribute them to each student annually. Parents will have the option to purchase insurance from a third-party provider.
What if the device is stolen, lost or damaged?
Accidental damage causing the iPad to be unusable is the responsibility of the student/family unless they have purchased insurance. Students should report damage or technical difficulties to their teacher and schedule an appointment with a computer aide in the Tech Help Center in room C61 (Cooper House - lower level). If the device cannot be fixed at that time, a loaner iPad/MacBook Air may be issued to the student. All iPad policy agreements remain in effect for the loaner device.
If a student’s iPad is stolen or damaged by another party, please report it to the office immediately. Your claim will be investigated further by the school district and/or the appropriate police agency.
Is Insurance available?

What are the repair or replacement costs for un-insured devices?

May students opt out of receiving the iPad?
All students will have a device as a part of their personalized learning experience at school. If the family does not wish to take after-school responsibility for the device, then the device will stay at school.
Can my child personalize his/her iPad?
No. It is important that students understand that these devices are for educational purposes, and by having only school-approved apps on devices at these grade levels, we will provide for a more focused classroom experience for both students and teachers. This will also allow families to limit use of the district-owned device at home to school-related purposes.
Can I customize the case I receive with my iPad?
Yes, appropriate labels, stickers and other ways for students to identify their iPad which DO NOT impair the iPad's use are acceptable.
Where does my child go for tech support while at school?
The Tech Support Desk will be open in room C61 (Cooper House - Lower floor), before and after school and during lunch.
If my student leaves Scarsdale Middle School, where does he/she turn in their iPad and accessories?
