In Kindergarten we focus on these basic concepts:
Short/long (rhythm, also articulation)
4 Voices: singing, speaking, calling, whisper
Students get frequent opportunities to develop in tune singing with songs from around the world and from various time periods. They develop kinesthetic and motor control by moving to music and by playing steady beats and simple rhythms on percussion instruments. They track music both visually and kinesthetically, developing the foundations of literacy and note reading. We share also make up stories about the songs we sing, engaging in imaginative play and using songs to narrate scenes from our everyday lives. In this way, students experience how music complements and completes our daily experiences.
