In fifth grade students solidify syncopated rhythms and we learn about "fa" and "ti," completing students' understanding of the major scale. Students dive deeper into partner dances, elaborate song-games, and in the second semester, learn to play the ukulele. Each student will be given the opportunity to take a ukulele home while to practice while we are learning, and I will send out a permission form when we do so to help keep track of all of the instruments. We will continue to work on the ear training and interval recognition that is crucial to their participation in the 5th grade choir, which involves the entire 5th grade. Each school that I work in has both a 4th and 5th grade choir, where students learn techniques for good singing, sight-singing, ear training and experience great choral literature.
