Book Trailer Assignment - Home of the Brave
Imagine you’ve just been hired as the director of a brand-new book trailer for Katherine Applegate’s powerful novel, Home of the Brave! Your mission? To bring this incredible story to life on screen just like the previews you see for movies. Using WeVideo, you’ll combine your knowledge of the book with your creativity and trailer-making skills to hook your audience and make them want to read more. Are you ready to become a storytelling superstar? Let’s get started!
First, reacquaint yourself with some of the book trailers we watched together by visiting the slideshow, “Book Trailer Examples," with book trailers for:
Restart by Gordon Korman
Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo
Life Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm
Your trailer must adhere to the following guidelines:
1 image or 6-word rule is in effect
Be exactly 30, 45 or 60 seconds in duration
Begin and end with 2 seconds of black
All clips between 2-6 seconds
Give the audience an overview of the story (without spoiling the ending)
Include a variety of images. Here is a LINK to a folder of teacher curated images with possible images you may want to use.
Have a voiceover/narration that is clear and audible (it’s recommended to do this recording at home in a quiet space)
Optional: background music
Additional Considerations:
Think about your audience. Who do you think would be interested in reading this book? Keep your audience in mind when planning your trailer.
Include the title and author of the book (such as book cover) at the beginning or end of the trailer.
Your audio is important! Make sure what you’re saying is clear, concise, and related to the image shown in each slide.
Your background music (optional) should be the last thing you add so that it complements all of your voice over and image work. Keep the background music low so that we can hear you.
Final Book Trailer's Due Date: Friday, November 14th
