Politics: "The activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power"(Oxford Languages).

I don't know about you but when I think of politics today, in 2020, that is not the definition I have in my mind. That definition seems far too civil in a country that has endured so much civil unrest in the past 6 months. With "hope" on the way in January, maybe these concerns are alleviated and 2021 is the start of a new beginning. However, what 2020 has shown me, is that politics are a mess.

Going back to the definition, I see a couple of things that are misunderstood. In modern politics is it politics to riot? Follow your religious beliefs? Speak your mind and follow your beliefs in general? To an extent, they are, but I think the general public has seemingly got the wrong message about all of it. These activities do pertain to politics but they are not being associated with it. They're being taken more radically, beyond politics. This is a sticky situation, you'll see going through this website. In addition, I think the second half of the definition shows why politics right now are trash. We can call things debates all we want but I haven't seen real any real political debate in 2020. The art of debate has been lost. I mean come on, I have seen more attacking and arguing about conflicts that lead to more conflicts than any meaningful solution. This trend has been evident in 2020 but also in recent years. Maybe it has to do with Trump, who knows?

Politics are trash, plain and simple. It's become a lost art. Politics have evolved in a society where identity and association play such a huge factor. People are attacking each other, cancelling each other, simply because people do not want to hear the other side of things. How's that for freedom of speech, you can't even disagree with people right (obviously this has its limitations)? Well, I don't care. I'm creating something that you may or may not like, not because it is presented bad, but because you simply just don't like it. Boasting political wins mean nothing. Just because your party won or lost doesn't make society better or worse. We're stuck in an era of garbage and it's not getting better even if you think it is. I want you all to see that, see how the media depicts politics, and see why we are not going to get better in the next year, but in the years and decades to come.
