Hope is coming but change is far...
As much as 2020 was about the pandemic, 2020 will be remembered for reminding us how prominent social injustice is in the United States. Starting the night of the murder of George Floyd (yes, murder), country-wide, every night, on the news, we all saw the rioting, looting, and outrage of the American Public. There were more instances of police brutality and just blatant racism in general, but the George Floyd incident will define in what should be a new era of bringing justice to the African-American Community. Yet, that new era may not really be the case.
Again, in something that is pretty much right or wrong, we have people who truly believe what happened to Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd should be justified. And with that, comes the politics. Racial injustice is not a political issue, it's a moral one. Over the course of the past six months, I have noticed a hard truth. Through the amounts of pandering by the Democratic Party and the blatant disregard for minorities by the Republican Party, I feel confident in saying that this current generation of politicians, do not care about our or your movements. They can show all the sympathy they want but it's not going to be a pressing issue for them.
As a person who isn't black/African-American, I don't like making this statement. Firstly, I don't know what it's like to be in their shoes and I haven't experienced anything that they have to. Secondly, Black Lives Matter is such an important issue that means a lot for society and it is something I truly believe in. However, as a person who tries to look at things from the middle or outside, the black community was just a bunch of pawns in this past election.
Hearing Joe Biden say that if you don't vote for him, you're not black, and watching the Democrats kneel in the Congress Building for George Floyd, was pandering at it's finest. It's like African-Americans belong to them. Having your own political beliefs is one thing, but what I see is that the Democrats are telling you to fall in line with them. There are up and comers who genuinely want to change the society in which we live in but the people we voted for will not start the change we want. If you look at the votes, the Democrats mainly won off of the moderate vote and they actually lost some of the minority votes to the Republicans. Republican's are brutally honest from what I see, they don't really care about advancing minority agenda but they're kind of like "you can't do any worse than us so you might as well join us." And to me, that couldn't be any more true.
Remember, we all had to choose between Donald Trump, a so-called White Supremacist, and Joe Biden, who helped pass the 1994 Crime Bill. Also Joe Biden's running mate, Kamala Harris, also helped put away many African-Americans during her time as a lawyer and barely won the black vote during her time in the primaries. These aren't the types of people to call for immediate change. Seriously, like Joe Biden who has been in politics for 47 years hasn't really done much and we expect that to change, why? To expect Joe Biden to create significant change seems out of mind. Voting between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was never going to be the make it or break it vote for racial injustice. It'll be the people like Stacey Abrahams or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez trying to rally the Black Lives Matter Movement in their agenda.
Speaking of Black Lives Matter... one thing Republicans are right about is that the Black Lives Matter Organization isn't what it may seem. One thing that has been said by people like Don Lemon of CNN, is that Black Lives Matter only pertains to police brutality and it doesn't mean that ALL Black Lives Matter. It's the reason people such as Leo Terrell and Terry Crews don't support this organization. They're not fighting for all black lives. In a movement that should unite the Black Community, it seemingly has a divide. On top of that, Black Lives Matter helps fund the Democratic Party. Yes, racial injustice is a political issue ( it should be more about right or wrong), however, I see BLM as another pawn to the Democratic Party. This movement isn't inclusive to black on black violence and that has drawn criticism to some prominent people. This movement only cares about some black victims. Just beware, as they have their own agenda too. Just because you don't support BLM, doesn't mean that you don't care about Black Lives, there are aspects not to like about the organization. This makes the organization seem more violent than it does peaceful because they are only exposing white on black violence.
Overall, don't expect drastic change to society. There will still be racist people out there such as Proud Boys and the KKK. As much as politics is trash, America is trash too. For believing that these two men and politicians will make our society better and for politics giving us a false fallacy of things to come.
