THEATRE ARTS

Students with a Theatre Arts emphasis in the VAPA Academy will take courses that focus on acting and performance but will also open up opportunities to learn stage craft as well. Both Acting and technical theatre will be explored through creating small theatre productions in class as well as fully staged productions after school. Through acting, script analysis, character development and hands on theatre tech practice student actors will get the opportunity to not only study theatre but practice it in real time becoming well rounded and disciplined theatre artists and story tellers.

Theatre productions

Theatre students who join the AVHS Theatre Company will collaborate together to put on two main stage productions a year. This after school commitment leads to a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Productions are not a requirement of theatre courses but an incredible hands on way to refine skills in acting and technical theatre in an extra curricular activity

Previous productions Include:

Zombie Prom - Spring 2019
The Mousetrap - Fall 2019

Almost, Maine - Fall 2018

Career Development

Throughout the theatre arts curriculum students in theatre courses will learn about some of the following theatre centric careers:

Stage Management

House Management

Lighting Design and operation

Set Design and construction

Sound Design and operation

costume/makeup/prop design.

These career paths are merely introduced in theatre courses but full participation in extra curricular through the AVHS theatre company will give opportunities after school to refine these skills in practice as students not only act in but run the technical elements of our fall and spring productions as well.
