Students travel to community training sites, accompanied by SBCISD staff. At the sites, students acquire necessary skills by participating in various unpaid employment activities. The educational staff intervenes
directly when needed, provides systematic training to the student, modifies the teaching instruction to match the needs of the student, and adapts circumstances on the task or activity to ensure a successful
training experience Locations include work-based learning sites and paid employment sites, post-secondary education options, service learning, community services such as grocery stores and adult
agencies, and community transportation services. Specific locations where the instruction occurs and the supports needed are individually designed and based on the adult student’s IEP developed by the ARD
(Admission, Review and Dismissal) Committee through a date-driven decision-making process based on
current evaluation data.
