Career Technical Education (CTE) is offered in different places within SBCAE:
SHORT-TERM (less than 12 months) CTE at Adult Schools
NON CREDIT CTE at Community Colleges
FOR CREDIT CTE at Community Colleges
To ease the transition from ESL or ABE/ASE into CTE, SBCAE members have developed a number of BRIDGE PROGRAMS, preparing students for a certain career sector through a combination of career exploration, terminology, contextualized ESL and Math.
Increasingly, consortium members are developing Integrated Education and Training (IET) courses, contextualized ESL programs that support English Learners prior to or concurrently with a CTE course.
An APPRENTICESHIP is a job plus school all in one. An apprenticeship is a good way to prepare adult learners for the future with on-the-job training in a highly skilled career. An apprenticeship is a paid job. Apprentices are trained by master craftsmen who are experts in their field.
PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS prepare students to enter apprenticeship programs. The TRADES ORIENTATION PROGRAM (TOPS) is a free, up to one-year program that will put learners on the pathway to apprenticeship and a rewarding career in the high demand construction trades.
