Learning to draw is really a matter of learning to see. Drawing & Painting will enrich your life in many ways and teach you to express yourself and see the beauty around you. Beginning art (Draw/Paint I) encourages a foundation of drawing skills as well as color theory. We will practice traditional drawing techniques as well as examine art from a variety of cultures and artists.

In the upper levels of art (Draw/Paint 2&3), experimentation happens with various media including watercolor, charcoal, acrylic, printmaking, and mixed media. Emphasis will be on working from imagination and strengthening drawing skills.

AP studio art is a portfolio of artwork. In this course, students choose their own topic or theme, and artistic growth develops through demonstrations and critiques.

In 2015, Santa Ana High School students partnered with Brian Peterson to assist him with his "Faces of Santa Ana" project. Brian began his mission of engaging our neighbors without homes through art and creativity. Through listening to their stories, meeting them in their communities, and establish a healthy level of trust, an artist can truly begin the process of drawing their portraits. Not only did Brian bring his work to Santa Ana High School, but he worked with our students to dig a little deeper than just placing paint on a canvas. Brian made sure our students used art as a tool for humanity to teach our students much more than art.
