School Internship is a program designed for eligible students to participate in a work experience related to their chosen career path and/or post-secondary plans. School Internship students work with a mentor within the district to gain hands on experience. This program is intended to mimic an internship that students may experience in their post-secondary plans, as a result an interview and/or other pre-placement requirements may be required prior to placement. Students should have the ability to work independently, have interest in areas beyond the classroom setting, and have communication and research skills as well as the ability to work closely with adults. Depending upon the placement a student's experience may include, special projects, working with IT on Chromebooks, assisting with running the school’s social media to helping helping prepare lesson plans, or working with students in a small group setting or one-on-one.
Students who have an interest in specific area, with the help of the School Internship Coordinator and/or their school counselor, will work to obtain staff mentors who will supervise and coordinate their learning experiences.
Students are responsible for their own transportation and not all placement requests will be granted. School Internship students earn 1/2 credit per trimester.
