CKLA, or Core Knowledge Language Arts, is our primary literacy curriculum at RMMS. This program is broken into two major strands: Skills (phonics and other foundational reading skills) and Knowledge (rich content knowledge through literature and discussions). The Knowledge lessons integrate a lot of our science and social studies curriculum as well. Additionally, we will use the CKLA Boost program on the iPads to rienforce learning. To suppliment this, we will use Heggarty for phonemic awareness practice, and many hands on learning activities during centers and literacy time. At the bottom of this page is our virtual "word wall" that I plan to update weekly. The words on the word wall are words we practice daily and aim to have children be able to look at and just know what they are, as some do not follow typical phonics patterns. These words are most commonly found in literature, so being able to read them in a snap is helpful for fluency once we begin decoding. I highly encourage families to practice these at home a few days each week.
The Knowledge units are:

The Five Senses
