The YMCA Youth Government Club offers high school students a unique opportunity to learn about democracy by actively participating in it. Through mock legislative sessions, debates, and leadership activities, students take on roles like senators, representatives, lobbyists, and press members to experience how government works firsthand. The program builds civic knowledge, public speaking skills, and confidence, empowering teens to become informed and engaged citizens. It also connects students with peers across the state, fostering collaboration and leadership development.Â

Our Outdoor Club provides students with hands-on, nature-based learning experiences that encourage exploration and curiosity. Because many students lack access to outdoor activities, equipment, or safe spaces outside of school, the club offers an inclusive environment where they can safely engage with the natural world. Through these experiences, students build physical wellness, develop environmental awareness, and strengthen social-emotional skills.Â
Drawing Club is a place for students to explore their creativity and practice their artistic skills. Members will experiment with different drawing techniques, styles, and materials while sharing ideas and inspiration with friends. The club encourages self-expression, imagination, and patience, giving students the freedom to create both guided projects and personal artwork.Â
First Week was a great turnout. Each student received their Drawing book and will be able to take them home to continue at the end of this session.
The Robotics Club gives students hands-on experience in building, programming, and testing robots while fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. Participants learn to apply concepts from math, science, engineering, and technology to design functional and efficient robots. The club emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and iterative design, allowing students to test ideas, troubleshoot problems, and improve their projects. Through collaboration and competition, students develop both technical skills and communication abilities, preparing them for future academic and career opportunities in STEM fields.Â
A Chess Club gives students the chance to learn, practice, and enjoy one of the world’s most strategic games. Playing chess helps strengthen critical thinking, logic, and problem-solving skills, while also encouraging patience and focus. Students will have the opportunity to challenge each other, learn new strategies, and even teach beginners the basics of the game. Whether you’re brand new to chess or already experienced, this club is a great way to sharpen your mind and have fun with friends.Â
The Student-Led Guitar Club is all about sharing your love of music and leading the group. Students will choose songs, teach each other techniques, and organize group practice sessions. It’s a fun way to develop leadership, collaborate with friends, and make music together.Â
The Art Club is a fun and creative space where students can explore different projects that they’ve helped come up with. Activities may include making special holiday cards, painting and decorating ornaments, or even designing and decorating holiday cookies. Students will have the freedom to choose what inspires them most while working alongside friends. It’s a chance to be creative, try new things, and bring home unique, handmade projects to share with family.Â
