The Coastal Corner: A Curriculum Newsletter for Seabrook Elementary and Middle Schools
Our 5th graders get to meet a new team of teachers and friends, travel to multiple classes and even have lockers for the first time. Here, fifth graders are learning to use graphic organizers to write an argument for social studies class and then they will revise and share in language arts class.

Who does it ?

And it's fun:)
In physical education class, sixth grade students worked together in cooperative groups to create original games for all the students to play. They learned about how to use collaborative skills, listen to each other and resolve conflicts in order to achieve a positive end goal... and they had a blast seeing their ideas put into action by their friends.
Sixth grade students had a chance to practice their geography and mapping skills by planning a vacation in our beautiful home state... they had to use their imaginations and be tourists on the road with family and friends. This type of learning is student centered and focused on skills that are applied and connected to the real world.
All 7th graders have a family and consumer science class in their schedules. This gives students the opportunity to practice cooperative, hands-on learning- and the results taste great too.

Seventh grade students celebrated the October season and studied the expressionist art work of Edvard Munch by using oil pastels to create their own version of The Scream. In November they were inspired by Pablo Picasso and created original portraits in the style of Cubism. The bulletin boards outside the art room are constantly changing and showcasing the many expressive and talented artists at SMS!
Thank you Mrs. Sousa:)
Middle school art class is a combination of open studio time and whole group instruction where students learn the elements of art: line, shape, color, value, form, texture and space.
