The Coastal Corner: A Curriculum Newsletter for Seabrook Elementary and Middle Schools
All third and fourth graders participated in an outdoor community day filled with hands-on, engaging activities. This special time together strengthens children's social and emotional learning (SEL) skills by sharing a common experience, having fun, and making friends. All students painted rocks, played team building games, went on a nature scavenger hunt, drew their class mascot, danced to music and they even made their very own tie-dye t-shirts!
A Proud Moment!
Students were so excited to share their results with each other! This type of classroom community building is so important in order to create a healthy and vibrant learning environment for all students. Look at these happy faces!
In second grade music class, students learn to play an instrument, read music, keep tempo and work in two part harmony on the xylophone! It was wonderful to hear how happy they sounded! It is exciting to make music together:)
Third and fourth graders are the teachers in our student-led maker workshops. They create a class, organize materials, welcome students and share their expertise. Our talented students have so much fun sharing their creativity!
All of the elementary Unified Arts teachers (music, art, physical education, library and technology) spent a full day outside on our property with all the classes that they teach, which is the whole school! Students used to the woods area to create nature inspired artwork, learn about respecting nature, and discover the benefits (mentally and physically) of outdoor time.
We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. —Native American proverb
The whole elementary school participated in this community building event! We even had middle school students lending a hand, or a wing:), to help the younger students all be successful!
Each grade level has a chance to show off their creative side by displaying art work for our community to enjoy. Thank you Ms. Bird, our SES art teacher, for showcasing all this student talent!
