All of our elementary students are learning how to: cooperate, speak up for themselves and others, be responsible, treat others as they would want to be treated, and manage their emotions and actions...in other words, CARES:)
Our Kindergarten students are published authors! They each used the writing process to write and illustrate a book that they then shared with their classmates. The books describe one amazing thing that they can do, and as it turns out...that's a whole lot.
Our kindergarteners can... make a snowman, brush my teeth, tie my shoe, zip my coat, be a good friend, make a sandwich, clean my room, dance, read, clean up my things, hug my sister, walk my dog, count to 100, swing, and run fast. They proudly shared their books with each other.
First graders are working towards seeing themselves as writers by writing books. They do careful and thoughtful work when they make books that they know they are going to shared with friends, and they also develop their stamina for writing. The first graders love to make things and pairing their creativity with the writing process makes writing block a time on the schedule that they look forward to every day.
The 100th day of school was a time for celebration and community building all across the school. Each grade level came up with a unique way to gather together and learn. The second grade students celebrated the 100th day of school all together! Students cooperated in multiple activities related to the number 100. They were learning by playing math games, reading poems, making fun art projects, they even write about what it would be like when they turned 100!
Third and fourth graders tapped the maple trees on our property to make syrup! The five steps involved from start to finish were: (1) learning all about maple sugaring; (2) determining when to tap and why; (3) identifying the trees to be tapped and tapping them, (4) collecting the sap and processing (boiling/evaporating) it; (5) filtering and tasting the sweetness of all that hard work. Hand-made maple syrup!
Third graders created three dimensional landform projects. They learned all about different landforms, created their own lands, and then wrote informational reports about the landforms they included in their boxes. They were so proud of their creative outcomes- they let their imaginations run wild!
All students in grades K-4 went sledding on school property during winter wonderland week! The students had so much fun being active and playing in the snow. They made winter memories with each other that will last a lifetime. The fourth graders had an epic volleyball tournament based on positive teamwork and healthy competition.
Thank you Ms. Hamblet for creating amazing opportunities that grow our students physically, socially and emotionally!
For the month of March, the pre-school class was challenged to complete 100 Acts of Kindness before their 100th day of preschool. If the students were observed being kind to self, to peers, to staff, or to the environment, their act of kindness was written on a heart and stuck on our "Kindness Tree". Families were also encouraged to report back on acts of kindness at home, which were also added to our tree. Growing together!
