Once a month, the whole SES learning community celebrates together with a "Community Building Day". On these days students and staff participate in activities that are designed to nurture collaboration and build a shared sense of community. Some of the community days we have had so far include: a Fall Festival, National Outdoor Classroom Day when we shared the grand opening our new Learning Walk, the Second Annual Turkey Trot, Winter Caroling, cookie decorating and more to come.
Research confirms that..."Students in schools with a strong sense of community are more likely to be academically motivated, and to act ethically and altruistically, and to develop social and emotional competencies." (Solomon, Battistich, Watson, Schaps, &Leweis, 2000)
The elementary math vertical team is participating in math instructional coaching with Karolyn Wurster from Math Empowered. The goals are to: strengthen math instructional strategies, learn from colleagues and coaching, provide teachers the tools they need to differentiate within the classroom setting and share a tangible toolkit of resources that support the continued implementation of the Eureka Math program.
In addition, the K-3 classroom teachers and reading interventionists are in year two of in-depth training in Fundations, Wilson's Language Training program. This is a multisensory, structured language program that provides systematic and explicit instruction in area of early literacy. A Fundations Implementation Coach is working within our building to support teachers for the duration of the school year.
We are a safe and supportive school committed to providing an inclusive environment that fosters academic and social emotional growth.
Staff from White Pine Programs lead 90-minute outdoor learning “Forest Friday” sessions for all 3rd and 4th grade students during the month of September. This was a great way for students and teachers to build a strong community at the beginning of the school year.
The White Pine Mission: To provide transformational nature experiences that forge personal resilience, inspire a lifelong commitment to our environment, and connect individuals to communities.
Guest Wellness Instructor: Seabrook Elementary School is excited to welcome Leigh Sloss to our learning community, our guest SEL/Wellness/Yoga instructor. She will be joining PE classes throughout the school year to support and instruct students in the areas of wellness, yoga and social and emotional learning. This is a unique opportunity for students to learn strategies that complement and enhance our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
“ Leigh's vision is to bring social, emotional, and mindfulness learning into schools as a unifying link between academics, health, and community…As a former educator, Leigh witnessed firsthand the need for children to feel safe and at ease before they could learn…Leigh understands that learning basic self-care and having tools in your back pocket to apply in any situation are must-haves in today's busy and stressful world. These tools can help you to calm down, pause, notice, and respond…Empowering young people to tune into themselves teaches them to do the same for others.”
Learning Through Exploration and Discovery
We are a safe and supportive school where students and staff have a voice and choice in their learning.
UNH Marine Docents visited our school and worked with 4th graders for a day of learning connected to their integrated social studies and science unit around New Hampshire history. Students also went on an interactive field trip to the Great Bay Discovery Center in Stratham to help answer the essential question: What makes New Hampshire a special place to live?
A UNH Marine Docent is a volunteer in a marine education program run jointly by NH Sea Grant and UNH Cooperative Extension at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). The mission of the UNH Marine Docent Program is to "provide a lens through which the marine and associated environments can be viewed, understood, and appreciated by people of all ages." Docents also provide a link between the University's research community and the public, through their educational programs.
Art work is every changing in our hallways- there is no end to the ways that students can express their creativity!
