We kicked off our season with an event in late September. Sunday Friends is a nonprofit organization that provides to the less fortunate community in the Bay Area. They hosted a STEAM Fair and allowed clubs and groups to set up booths and teach the children that attend about different aspects of STEAM. When we found out about this event, we immediately decided this was the perfect way to promote our club values and spread our love for robotics and STEAM. At the event, we brought Dash and Dot robots, which are simple robots that can drive around and light up with the control of an iPad. We also brought some uncompleted drivetrains that we started building from VEX parts and had the kids complete building them. Finally, we brought one of our robots from Turning Point last year, and we used the puncher to shoot some balls around the blacktop. This was our first outreach event of the season, and it was a big success.
Day in the Bay was an event in which different organizations set up booths about various things, from art projects to robotics. At this event, we taught kids how to use the Dash and Dot robots. We also let them build one side of a chassis. Additionally, we had one of our robots from last year on display, with one of our members driving the robot. Finally, we talked about our club and it's history to anyone interested learning more about our program. Above are pictures from the event.
We also have outreach events coming up in the second half of this season. The first one is going to happen around March 2020, where we will be demonstrating our Tower Takeover robots to the Tech Squad from our local elementary school. In our off season, we will also be mentoring a Boy Scouts troop from our area about VEX and robotics.
