Our club began at the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Our STEM teacher, Mr. Due Hoang, started the club as an effort to teach the students at our school about STEM and its capabilities. The club started small, with only about 25 members. The challenge that year was "In the Zone". Our club did not have any designated teams that year, nor did we attend any competitions. We simply built robots and held scrimmages against ourselves to get an understanding of robotics and VEX.
The next year, 2018-2019, we had a signup of about 110 members. We were thrilled at how much we had grown over a year. We built our robots, competed in 4 competitions, as well as hosted and attended many outreach events. This was a big jump from the previous year, and we ended with a victory at the Google Signature Competition, with our team 95070B getting awarded the Judges Award.
Our club is now mainly student run. Our leaders manage many of the aspects of our club, each doing different things depending on their job. You can learn more about our student leaders on the Student Leadership page.
This year, our club has two parts. The first is the same as last year, with 7 competing teams, and the second is a new rookie training program.
Rookie members go through the rookie training program before they are assigned to a competing team where they will take on a larger role. The rookie training program allows members with no prior VEX experience to learn about VEX without the pressure of being on a team. You can learn more about this program here.
We hope for our club to continue to grow and our teams to continue to get stronger as the years go by. We hope that our veteran members will assist our rookie members, forming diverse teams with people for every task. Our technical goal for this season and beyond is to make it to Worlds, however, our main focus is to have fun building robots and working in a team environment.
