Program questions ...

What equipment does my student need to attend iHigh Virtual Academy?

All necessary equipment is supplied to the student. San Diego Unified School District provides a Chromebook and charger for each enrolled student to use. Many school activities including state testing, require the use of this specific device. The district has a process to assist students who need an internet connection capable of supporting both asynchronous and synchronous modes of instruction.

My child doesn’t want to attend school anymore. They are failing and they stopped attending school. Is iHigh a good option for them?

Parents/Guardians are responsible for deciding if iHigh Virtual Academy’s independent study program is an appropriate educational environment for their student(s). Independence is an important part of the program at iHigh Virtual Academy, iHigh students need to develop or have skills such as navigating educational technology, task initiation, self-advocacy, and work completion in order for the greatest success.  For more information on our program and its student expectations, review the informational videos posted on the enrollment section of our website.

Enrollment questions ...

What actions and materials do I need to enroll?

After the interest form is submitted, our integrated enrollment team reviews the information and sets up an orientation meeting with a counselor. Students are enrolled based on availability of space and completion of required enrollment documents.

Once the parent/guardian receives confirmation that the student is able to enroll, the enrollment documents need to be completed within established timelines.

I can not come in person to complete the enrollment packet, will it be available online?

Several critical enrollment documents must be signed in the presence of our enrollment team so there is not a completely online enrollment process.

My student is not vaccinated, can I still apply to iHigh Virtual since it is an online school?

California Health Laws require that all students under age 18 years, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, be immunized against certain diseases unless they are exempt for medical reasons. At the time of registration, the school is required to have proof that your child has received all currently due immunizations. If you have questions, please review the current immunization requirements for San Diego Unified School District.

I do not have my student’s immunization record, can I still enroll my student?

If the student is currently enrolled in SDUSD school, please contact the student’s current school to obtain a copy of the immunization records. California Health Laws require that all students under age 18 years, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, be immunized against certain diseases unless they are exempt for medical reasons. I do not have my student’s birth certificate, can I still enroll my student?

If the student is currently enrolled in SDUSD school please contact the student’s current school to obtain a copy of the student’s birth certificate. If the student is new to SDUSD, schools are required to have a copy of the birth certificate or legal equivalent in order to enroll.

Do I need to supply iHigh with a current copy of my students IEP if I’m coming from outside the SDUSD district, including Charter or Home Schooling?

Yes, this is extremely important. At a minimum, the most current IEP is needed if coming from outside the district. This should automatically happen due to the fact that the student's current school MUST start the change of placement. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) the student's current school shall convene an IEP meeting to discuss a change of placement.

My student is in the process of evaluation for special education services. Can I enroll now or do I have to wait for an assigned case manager to begin the enrollment process?

If the student receives special education services via an IEP, the student's current school MUST start the change of placement process. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) the student's current school shall convene an IEP meeting to discuss a change of placement. Therefore, the student's current case manager will initiate a change of placement meeting. If the student is in the process of evaluation for special education services the student should remain at their current school until the assessment process has been completed. The assessment results will be important to determine if an independent study program is an appropriate placement for the student. If the student or parent/guardian has any questions related to this process please contact the student's current or most recent case manager.

We currently share housing with a relative and we do not have any utilities in our name. Can we still apply?

Yes, you can still apply. You will need to complete the Caregiver affidavit  attached to the enrollment packet.

I am the older sibling/aunt of a student and would like to enroll, do I need to provide proof of guardianship?

All students must be enrolled by a parent/guardian. The legal parent/guardian, who has the guardianship documentation, completes the enrollment documentation.
