Ms. Mindy has made a "How to build your home worm bin video: HERE. Meanwhile you might be wondering:

  • Where can I get a bin? You can dig your compost into the ground, or make a bin out of things you have at home -- but if you want to get a formal bin the City has subsidized (meaning you can get money back from the city) if you buy a bin through their voucher program at Dixieline. City of San Diego Compost Bin Voucher Dixieline donated a compost bin to Birney!

  • What are the ingredients I can put in the compost? Decomposers need similar things to plants and people AIR, WATER, GREENS & BROWNS. If you do not remember you can click on th is LINK COMPOST INGREDIENTS

  • How can I problem solve? Compost, like gardening, often involves being patient and being a problem solver. If your compost seems too dry -- add water, too wet (it may be smelly) add some dry browns to break it up, if there are flies -- you can exclude them. There are some TIPS here in county Compost Brochure this one is more complicated but also good: Compost It Yourself

You can always Ask Ms. Mindy for some help! Leave me FLIPGRID: COMPOST TOPIC ON FLIPGRID to tell me how your compost is breaking things down. Remember BIODEGRADABLE -- it breaks DOWN.
