3D printer
This week, we had two activities. First, applying 2D model on laser cutter using a software called " LaserWork " on wood sheet. Then, I manufactured 3D model using 3D printer with PLA material by using software called " Ultimaker Cura".
Laser Cutter
Ultimaker
Machines:
laser cutting machine for 2D model
PURSA I3 MK2 for 3D model
Softwares:
LaserWork
Ultimaker Cura 4.10.0
Materials:
plywood 3mm thick
PLA 2mm blue filament
lighted sorting hat
cup coaster of Marid washwishny shape
laser cutting speed and power values
Laser cutting Modeling:
In the begining, I searched about ".dxf" file on 3axis.com. Then, I imported on laser works software to modify it, set the right speed and power values which are 300 speed and 35 power for the speed cut, 20 speed and 65 power for the outer line cut and speed 400 and power 55 for the scan. After that, I saved the file in ".rld" extension and transformed to the laser cutter PC. In the end, I looked at the last preview then started the operation.
3D printing Modeling:
First, I wanted to manufacture the sorting hat of harry potter movie, So I searched about it as ".stl" file from thingiverse.com. Then, I imported it on Ultimaker Cura. the next step was modifing the dimensions, Temperature, adding supports and slice it.
Suitable infill, profile and supports
suitable Temperature for printing
For the Laser cutting:
open the flash memory on the laser cut PC.
open my RLP file
check the speed
watch the preview
prepare the origin position of the work piece
checking the focal length by using the " focus".
choose my file from the files
RUN
It was 1 min and 30 secs.
Here I used the speed cut cause, I just wanted Mark in wood not cut. Then, I used the deep cut to seperate the final model from the sheet.

For the 3D printing:
Rename the file with the printing details "PI3MK2_lighted_sorting_hat_55min_8g_blue.gcode"
put the file on the printer SD card
choose the file on the Machine and RUN

yes, actually my Instructor liked it and my colleauges said that it's nice, but it will be better if it was larger. Plus, I gave them my feedback on their beautiful choices for their pieces.
In the fact, it was hard to remove the support from the 3D model, I did my best to avoid causing cracks to the model. Plus, I had to redesign the model because the temperature was 215 not 200.
As for laser cutting, I wanted to scan the teeth above the mouth, but it didn't appear in the preview cause it wasn't close curve. The instructor helped me as we tried to change it to speed cut rathar than scaning and it works.

Actually, I liked the smell of laser cutting fumes and the sound of layers in 3D printing. It was really exciting!
The coolest thing was watching my prototypes on real.
