-This is the first week for us using design software to design a model of a simple mobile phone holder using Fusion 360.
- Designing a model will help me in the final project as i can make the model for the robot body
- For the mobile holder, i love Korean movies. This sign in the right picture is the love sign as it looks like hart. The second picture inspired me to make the same model
Laser Cutting
Software: laserWork (used in prepare for fabrication process)
Machine: Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter
Material: Wood + M3 screws and nuts as well.

Designing process
Software: Fusion360
Fusion360
1-i start with a circle for the screw from the origin the drown the two slots for fixation
2- then I drown the main frame for the mobile holder
3- The most important thing is to make the sketch fully defined. This can be done by define each line with a defined one and put each dimension
4-I want to reach the max. benefit from this mobile holder so i want to set a place for mobile charger USB
I search for mobile holder size and find in is within the range of 1 cm
5- After making sure from the dimension i press FINISH SKETCH button
Quick math
Perfect design need a mathematical calculations
i need the mobile folder has an inclination angle 60 degree with the ground
After this quick math, i find that the back has to be 70 mm to reach this angle
1- Drown the rectangle for back section 7*10 cm
2- Then Drown the fixation part with 2 cm to be fixed with the front and hold the mobile
3- Doing a mirror feature, by draw a contraction line as shown
4- Perfect mobile holder should have a place for head phone, so i draw this circle in the left (as in my phone ). Its size is 5mm
5- Use is source for making a t slot to fix the two parts together.
Make it have 5 m thickness to avoid breaking
1-After finishing the sketches i do this feature to make it 3D object
Making this with the 2 parts
1-Front part
2- Back Part
4-Fillet the sharp edges to make it has good look
5-Assemble the two parts together to get the need joint method
Import the DXF file to laserWork
check the dimensions for the mobile holder
sit the needed speed and power values
For cutting the outer line as 15 and power 65 (represented by Black layer )
For the scan cutting shape i set speed 200 and power 40 (as in the pink layer).
For the scanned part in the back i set the speed of 300 and power 30 (as in the Black BMP layer ).
Save all my progress as RLD file for the fabrication process
it will take 4.23 min
download the file to machine
Before cutting i had to make sure from the preview part to see a simulate shape for laser cutting and know the needed time for cutting process
First put the rld file in a flash memory and download it in the machine(In laserwork).
Turn on the machine and set the origin of the cutting.
from File >> upload the file>> see the estimated time >> see cutting track
Press enter to start cutting

n the first trail to make this assignment, i was don't care about the fully defined sketch.
I was drawn the sketch with the dimensions and after i finish it was really hard to start again and make it fully defined.
Also the chosen plane was really important which i also wasn't care about it.
So in the assembly process it was like a messy objects.
- So, i choose to start again with new model and make it a good start ( making a fully defined sketches and choose the right planes) as i mentioned in the design steps part
Messy parts
Nice but hard trial
while i think about the Korean love sign as a printed part of the model, i want to make it be cuted as the inspection mobile holder model.
But I can't find any DXF file for it.
So i try to make it myself , it was really hard with Fusion 360.
It's ended up to be scan cutting
put it in laserWorks and make the medium speed 200 (which is low for scanning) and power 40 (which low for cutting)
Knowing and practicing how to deal with sketches using software as Fusion 360 will help me to make this part from the final project easily .
As I'm now know how to make a 3D parts and how to assembly this parts together to make a final part which in this case will be robot body.
I learn also how to deal with laserWorks and how to set the speed and power.
As the robot body will be made from wood it will be very helpful to know how to operate.
This week in class activity is to model a Miniature Rocking Chair using Fusion 360 and Fabricate it using the Laser Cutter.
We divided into group of 2 to draw Back - Sides - Base. I drawn the side which have a lot of details.
We tried hard to make it and after the laser cutting process we find out that our chair was the only chair which it work 100% without any error. 🥳🥳
