I love all puzzle types, so searching for a puzzle project by laser cutting or 3d printing is really exciting to me. Islamic art is very inspiring and reflects our culture.
Sliding puzzle
I had a sliding puzzle when I was little, but it got lost.
so I am excited to make one and back to childhood.
Airplane puzzle
Islamic pattern as a decoration.
cookies cutter
sometimes I love cooking, so making a cookie cutter with a puzzle shape is interesting. (I make another printing object Because sliding puzzles did not cover the requirements of the assignment).
Ultimaker Cura software for 3d printing
this software to preparing design properties before printing, such as knowing the grams of the design and how much time will take to print.
Laser Work software to laser cutting
this software to preparing design properties before cutting and control which part will be cut or scanned, by changing the power and speed of the machine.
This is PRUSA i3 MK2 3D Printer.
This is Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter.
PLA material.
3mm plywood.
Laser Work
search on (3axis.co), to find an Islamic pattern as a DXF file, so Laser Work can handle it. But I can't find one as I want.
so, converted image to DXF file on the online converter.
Download this file as DXF.
import the file to Laser Work and change the setting.
resize the design to be 120*250 mm. OR change the scale but first, make sure you clicked on the locker button.
adjust the speed and power to all of the parts to cut it.
speed: 30
power: 65.
save file as .rld
choose the design from (Thingiverse), Download it as a . STL file, so Ultimaker Cura can handle it (Treasure puzzle).
open the file to Ultimaker Cura and change the setting to suitable for the requirements of the assignment.
adjust the scaling by about 50% and check on the uniform, to make the puzzle smaller without any damage to the design.
make the layer height 0.2mm.
Use 10% infill to make it strong.
slicing design to see the time.
save file as .gcode to upload it 3d printing machine.
choose the design from (Thingiverse), Download it as a . STL file, so Ultimaker Cura can handle it (cookies cutter).
open the file to Ultimaker Cura and change the setting to suitable for the requirements of the assignment.
adjust the scaling by about 70% and check on the uniform, to make the puzzle smaller without any damage to the design.
make the layer height 0.2mm.
Use 20% infill to make it strong.
slicing design to see the time.
save file as .gcode to upload it 3d printing machine.
make sure the setting of the design is correct.
the fab lab specialist E\Omar help me to set suitable power to this design (power 65 to 70, good at edges in the design)
download the file to the machine.
put a wood sheet in the machine.
set the origin of the laser beam.
making sure the focus is right.
choose the file and run it.
laser cut preparation
make sure the parameter of design is correct. with fab lab specialist E\Amr.
upload gcode file to the memory card.
insert the memory card into the machine and choose the file and print it.
waiting for the output.
sliding puzzle 3d printing preparation
make sure the parameter of design is correct. with fab lab specialist E\Basant.
make a brim.
print speed 60 mm/s
printing temperature 215 c.
build plate temperature 60 c.
upload gcode file to the memory card.
insert the memory card into the machine and choose the file and print it.
waiting for the output.

the problem I faced is the sliding puzzle not moving. and fab lab specialist E\Hussein suggests editing a Horizontal expansion in the Wall parameter to make a space between blocks shape. And decrease infill to 5%.
but this Horizontal expansion was too large and the outer shape was too big for the blocks. To solve this problem E\Hussein suggests cutting a square to stick the outer square of the puzzle on it.
the problem I faced is the height of the cookie cutter is small.
better after scaling down, uncheck of uniform and make Z more bigger. To solve it:
click on the puzzle part, choose the scaling
uncheck uniform
increase the height of Z to 15 mm.

the coolest thing I've learned this week is how to change the filament of a 3d printing machine.
support Blocker parameter to control unneeded supports.
